Hypertension is a significant, global public health concern. An educational intervention one-group, pre-test/post-test, was conducted in an African American community social group to improve awareness and knowledge. Thirty-nine individuals participated and completed the pre and posttest on hypertension knowledge. The mean age was 43.15 years, age range 28-60. For the overall study, there was a significant difference in participant’s pre-intervention knowledge (M=25.3; SD. =2.7) and post-intervention hypertension knowledge (M=22.8; SD.85); t (39), p<0.001. Effective community education considers cultural background and social norms, hypertension knowledge and awareness is particularly critical for the African American community.en_US
